📖 The Story Behind the Shot

Some mornings are loud and dramatic. Others whisper.

This sunrise at Berkeley Vale was one of those quieter mornings. There was little wind, barely a ripple across the lake, and a sense of calm that settled over the landscape before the day had properly begun.

As dawn approached, the cloud formations overhead began catching the first light. Using a slow shutter speed, I was able to soften the water and gently stretch the movement within the clouds, creating a feeling of stillness throughout the image.

The old jetty immediately became the centrepiece of the composition. Its strong lines lead the viewer through the photograph towards the horizon, creating a visual journey through the scene.

Then came the finishing touch. Two birds landed quietly at the end of the jetty, seemingly content to watch the sunrise unfold. Their presence added life to the image without disturbing the peace of the moment.

It's these unexpected details that often turn a photograph into a memory.
