"Nestled Homestead"
In February 2023, I was away on a trip with my photographer husband, camping along side the Turon River at Sofala, an historic gold mining town located in the Central Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia. It was established during the gold rush in the mid-1800s and was once one of the largest towns in the area, with a population of over 10,000 people at its peak. Sofala was the site of the first payable gold discovery in Australia in 1851 which sparked the Australian gold rush, led to a surge in immigration and transformed the economy of Australia, making it one of the wealthiest countries in the world at the time!
The whole area is made up of these gentle rolling hills, dotted with various houses, barns, cottages and shacks. This red barn sitting in a paddock lit up by the sun really popped out of the landscape, practically screaming “PAINT ME!” So I did, starting “en plein air” (which simply means painting outdoors!), and then finishing it off back home in the studio.
This original acrylic painting has been hand painted onto 3mm MDF board and comes framed in a golden wood frame.
