Rob Notara is a ceramic artist whose work brings together fine art, storytelling and everyday function. After a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years as a Teacher and Teacher Librarian, Rob retired and dedicated himself fully to visual arts, building on a lifelong passion for sketching, design and creative expression.
Originally working in oil, pastel and watercolour, Rob began questioning why so much art exists only to be viewed on walls. This curiosity led to a pivotal shift in his practice—creating functional ceramic works that also serve as expressive artworks, designed to be both used and enjoyed.
A lifelong travel and urban sketcher, Rob draws inspiration from places, journeys and personal narratives. Water themes feature strongly throughout his work, alongside playful and quirky aquatic characters that reflect his belief that art should lift the spirit, invite conversation and spark joy.
Today, Rob’s ceramics are celebrated for their charm, originality and warmth. Each piece balances artistic expression with everyday practicality, embodying his philosophy that art should be lived with, shared and experienced in daily life.
