There is something special about being at the coast before sunrise. The crowds have not arrived, the world is quieter, and for a brief moment it feels like you have the place to yourself.

On this morning, I arrived at the Grant McBride Baths before first light, watching as the colours slowly developed across the eastern sky. The clouds overhead began to catch the early sunlight while the ocean settled into gentle rhythms beyond the pool.

Using a long exposure, I smoothed the movement of the water to create a sense of calm, allowing the sunrise colours to become the hero of the image. Just as the sun touched the horizon, two people stepped into the frame and paused to watch the spectacle unfold.

Their presence transformed the photograph. What began as a landscape became a story about connection, reflection, and sharing a moment that lasts only a few minutes but remains in your memory long after the sun has climbed into the sky.
