Mine Mine Mine
Pelican Time, The Entrance Waterfront, Central Coast NSW
🖼️ Description
“Mine Mine Mine” captures the chaos, energy, and sheer determination of one of the Central Coast's most iconic wildlife spectacles.
A tangle of beaks, feathers, wings, and bright yellow eyes collide as pelicans compete for position during feeding time at The Entrance Waterfront. Frozen at the peak of the action, the image showcases the extraordinary behaviour of these remarkable birds as they battle for what each believes should belong to them.
The result is a photograph filled with movement, character, and a touch of humour that never fails to draw a reaction.
📖 The Story Behind the Shot
Anyone who has attended Pelican Time at The Entrance knows that things can become wonderfully chaotic very quickly.
From a distance, pelicans often appear calm and almost awkward as they float across the water. Get close during feeding time, however, and an entirely different side of their personality emerges.
On this day, I was positioned close to the action when the feeding frenzy erupted. Within seconds, long beaks were crossing, wings were flaring, and every pelican seemed convinced it deserved the next fish.
What fascinated me most was the symmetry of the moment. Beaks crossed like swords in a medieval battle, necks stretched skyward, and the birds created an almost sculptural formation against the deep blue sky.
Wildlife photography often requires patience. Sometimes you wait hours for a moment to unfold. In this case, everything happened in seconds.
The challenge wasn't finding the action. It was keeping up with it.
🌿 Why It Matters
Wildlife photography isn't always about rare animals in remote places.
Sometimes the most engaging stories are happening right in front of us.
"Mine Mine Mine" celebrates the personality and behaviour of a species that has become part of the identity of The Entrance. Beyond the humour and chaos lies a fascinating glimpse into the natural instincts that drive wildlife every day.
The image reminds us that nature can be dramatic, unpredictable, entertaining, and surprisingly relatable. After all, who hasn't seen a situation where everyone wanted the same thing at the same time?
For locals, this photograph captures a uniquely Central Coast experience. For visitors, it offers a memorable snapshot of one of Australia's most recognisable coastal birds behaving exactly as nature intended.
