“Pandemic Harbour” is a rare and deeply personal interpretation of one of Australia’s most recognisable cityscapes, created during an extraordinary period in our history.

Sydney’s skyline stretches across the panoramic composition, bringing together the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, city lights and surrounding harbour suburbs. Yet this is not the familiar Sydney of crowds, ferries and constant movement.

Created from photographs captured during the COVID-19 pandemic and its associated restrictions, the artwork reflects a city experienced at an unusual moment — quieter, isolated and almost suspended in time.

This is a Limited Edition of only five prints worldwide, across all sizes.

Only one framed print remains available.

When it sells, the edition is permanently closed. “Pandemic Harbour” will never be printed again.

The Story Behind the Shot

“Pandemic Harbour” exists because of a very particular moment in history.

During the turbulent years of COVID, lockdowns and travel restrictions dramatically changed where I could go and what I could photograph. Like everyone else, normal life stopped, plans disappeared and opportunities to simply head out with the camera became rare.

During one period of eased restrictions, photographers were again able to venture out for work. I took that opportunity to spend a night photographing Sydney Harbour.

The resulting images then sat dormant.

In many ways, they waited just as we all did.

Some time later, I was approached by a private collector looking for something unique for their home. Their brief gave me a reason to revisit those photographs and consider them differently.

Rather than simply creating another beautiful Sydney Harbour panorama, I wanted the finished artwork to carry something of the atmosphere and emotions of the time in which the photographs had been made.

The Sydney skyline, Opera House and Harbour Bridge were familiar landmarks, but our relationship with places like these had changed. Sydney was still there, yet for a period it had become strangely distant and inaccessible.

Those photographs eventually came together as “Pandemic Harbour” — an artwork unlike my usual landscape photography and one that could only have been created from that particular experience.

Why It Matters

Some photographs record a place.

Others record a moment in history.

“Pandemic Harbour” does both.

COVID affected all of us differently, but there is a shared memory of that strange period when cities became quiet, borders closed and everyday freedoms we had rarely thought about suddenly disappeared.

This photograph doesn't attempt to define that experience. Instead, it provides a different perspective on it through one of Australia's most familiar landscapes.

For me, that makes “Pandemic Harbour” more than a photograph of Sydney. It represents a chapter that cannot be recreated — both photographically and historically.

And now the artwork itself is approaching the end of its story.

The Limited Edition

“Pandemic Harbour” is strictly limited to five prints in total worldwide, regardless of size.

Each print in the edition is individually numbered and signed by Jeff Walsh and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Print No. 1 was created for and delivered to the private collector who originally commissioned the artwork. The remaining four were subsequently released for public sale.

There is now just one framed print remaining.

The edition will not be extended, another size will not be substituted, and no additional print will be produced after the final artwork sells.

That means the next collector doesn't simply purchase the last currently available print.

They close the edition.

The Print

“Pandemic Harbour” is produced using Epson archival inks on Metallic Photographic Paper, selected to enhance the lights, reflections and tonal depth of the Sydney Harbour cityscape.

The print is treated with Hahnemühle Protective Spray, providing additional protection to the photographic surface from dust, fingerprints and environmental exposure.

The final remaining artwork is professionally framed and ready to hang, completing a presentation designed to become a statement piece within a home, office or private collection.

Five prints. One edition. One framed artwork remains.
