On this morning, heavy cloud dominated the sky before dawn, and it would have been easy to assume the sunrise was going to be a disappointment. Years of chasing light have taught me otherwise. Often the best colour arrives when the conditions appear least promising.

As I positioned the drone offshore, the first light of day began filtering beneath the cloud layer. A narrow strip of golden light illuminated the horizon while the coastline remained under a dramatic canopy of blue-grey cloud.

From above, Terrigal revealed itself in a way few people experience. The sweeping curve of the bay, the boats resting peacefully in the haven, the rugged sandstone platforms, and the unmistakable shape of The Skillion all combined to create a photograph that celebrates this unique stretch of coastline.

It was one of those mornings where patience paid off.
