From our art gallery in The Entrance, Central Coast NSW
We are delighted to welcome Mary Cottam as the latest artist to join Scapes of Art Gallery in The Entrance.
Mary brings a lifetime of artistic experience to the gallery, along with an enduring curiosity for light, landscape, people and place.
Mary studied painting and pottery in the United Kingdom during the early 1960s and exhibited widely in England, receiving several awards. After moving to Abu Dhabi in 1981, she continued painting and exhibiting, finding inspiration in the local landscape and community before settling in Australia in 1987.
Since arriving in Australia, Mary has exhibited extensively around Sydney, including at the Sydney Opera House, Darling Harbour, Newport and Woollahra. Her work has ranged from coastal landscapes and city scenes to portraits, murals and paintings inspired by her years in the Middle East.
Mary has also taught painting, undertaken private commissions and been recognised for her contribution to the community. Her creativity has extended into publishing, including writing and illustrating The Minnow Run, a story inspired by her Yorkshire childhood, and creating the artwork for other published books.
Light remains central to Mary’s work. Whether painting the sea, bushland, a city neighbourhood or a portrait, she approaches each subject individually, capturing its distinctive atmosphere and character.
Her paintings reflect a rich creative life lived across several countries and landscapes, making her work a wonderful addition to the gallery’s collection of original Australian art.
